DAY 3 - December 31st

This getting up early is for the birds. Do I need to see to get on the elliptical? I think I've spent enough time online now that I'm awake, and now I've nearly talked myself out of a morning workout. But I did get up early, so here I go. Back in a few...
---AND.... DONE! Plugged in a different fan today (much better!) and did 20 minutes at level 3 (hills, again - why change if it works, right?) All went well - a little light tingling in my hands today, but nothing near to yesterdays madness. Now I'm hot, sweaty, and I have to shower since I'm running late. :( I'm pretty sure I have officially used this thing more in the last 3 days than in the last year. Not sure how I feel about that... :/
LESSONS FOR THE DAY: Don't get on the internet before your workout. It sucks you in and time enters warp speed.

DAY 2 - December 30

A new milestone! (Okay, I guess for the first few days, they'll all be milestones.) I set the alarm for 6:30 - and ACTUALLY GOT UP! Not happily, but it happened. Set up the floor fan, pulled out my kindle and set the elliptical for 20 minutes on level 2 (needed a little incentive for getting up early and moving around before my coffee.) Stuck with the "hills" workout. Everything was great, until my hands began to itch. I'm not talking a little bug-bite type of itch, I'm talking a full-blown drive-you-crazy-can't-scratch-it itchiness on both hands! Normally, this would be a "sign" that I should give up for the day, but I was halfway through and it's only day 2. Jumped off for a minute to run my hands under cold water, which only helped for a moment. The remainder of my workout was pure willpower, scratching my hands and counting the seconds. But I made it. And after a quick search on Google, I found that this itchiness is common with people who haven't worked out in awhile. Yay, me.

LESSONS FOR THE DAY:
1. I need a new floor fan. Mine has a broken neck, so it pretty much just blew air at my feet. Which I'll admit, was better than nothing.
2. Drink water. I'm pretty sure that I am dehydrated much of the time. Why can't coffee count? It's made with water!
3. Bring a cold, damp washcloth for tomorrow's workout - in case of itchy hands.

DAY 1 - December 29, 2014

Why wait until Jan 1? There's a good chance I won't be feeling the best that day, and I can assure you I won't be in the mood to hop on this thing and sweat it out (now you know my excuse for January 1st!)

Got on the elliptical - what do you know? It's right where I left it. It has collected some dust (and a dead bug), but appears to be in working order. Now, I haven't worked out in roughly 2 years so I took it light today - started with 20 minutes on a random program with "hills" on level 3. The machine defaulted to level 8, but that seemed a bit lofty for the first day, so I pressed that down arrow without guilt. Turned on some workout music and got to work.

LESSONS FOR DAY ONE:
1. Coffee is not the best pre-workout drink.
2. The lovely pellet stove puts off a lot of heat, and is located pretty near to my elliptical - sweat is good, right? (Note to self: get the floor-standing fan for next workout.)

Made it through the entire 20 minutes (it was more of a struggle than I expected.) Upon initial completion, was already talking myself out of a workout tomorrow. But now that I've cooled down, I think I can do this again tomorrow.

The elliptical experiment

Here we go. Several years ago, I purchased a beautiful, sleek and quiet elliptical. The goal? To work out at home, of course. Since I can't seem to get my lazy butt out of bed, and I hate packing all my belongings to a gym to get ready, and who really wants to work out after a full day of work, right?
This was/is the perfect solution! It's right there, downstairs. Easy access, not hidden. I can watch TV, look out the window, and I don't even have to dress up or brush my hair to use it! Only one problem... I have to actually get ON the damn thing for it to be effective.

I knew there was a glitch.

So here we go again. Every year, I tell myself I'm going to use it. It really only takes a few minutes a day, and all my previous points are valid. So let's give it another shot. This time, I'm going to track my use. I don't really know much about blogs, but if this actually sticks, maybe I'll make one. I will type each time I use my elliptical, and every time I don't, I will write down why I didn't (also known as the "excuse of the day.")

If anyone sees this and has a similar problem in their home - feel free to chime in and share your stories with me. Maybe we can get some use out of that top-of-the-line clothes hangar!
